SUPPORT GROUPS FOR RELIGIOUS TRAUMA SURVIVORS

Harms done in isolation must be healed in connection. Beyond initial betrayal is the silence of witnesses – a cry ignored, a question punished, a doubt shamed. Healing begins when said silence is broken in presence of others willing to stand with you.

Support groups aren’t just about processing trauma, but can help restore trust in humanity, offer community and a sense of belonging. Validating the human right to exist without needing to earn every breath. They are soft landings for those who:

  • Escaped high-control religious groups or cults

  • Were excommunicated/disfellowshipped for any reason

  • Feel displaced between calls toward faith and freedom

  • Were shunned, silenced, or spiritually scapegoated

You are not too much for having questions and/or doubts, nor should you accept any terms thy apply to you. Whether heretic or apostate, all name calling originates in hypocrisy by those projecting inadequacies. As others within like-minded support groups, you are a welcome hero, whistleblower to injustices. When fellow survivors unite, advocacy will only flourish!

Whether you’re wrestling with guilt, unraveling theology, or simply learning to breathe without fear of damnation – these spaces are sacred. No performance or preaching. Just people intimate with pain – like yourself – those who care. Healing in presence of those who no longer flinch when speaking, isn’t just group therapy, but communal resurrection.

You’re not alone. You never were. Only now – youre seen and heard.
