REPORT RELIGIOUS TRAUMA CASES

Silence Protects the Abuser - Not the Abused

For too long, RTS has been dismissed as a faith crisis rather than recognized for what it is – a violation of trust, autonomy, even the law. Survivors are told to forgive and forget “Leave it in God’s hands” or worse – remain silent so as not to “Hurt the church!” Damage isn’t done by souls who’ve spoken out, but so-called believers who knew, yet did nothing. Reporting religious trauma is not vengeful. It’s an act of integrity. A declaration that no institution, no matter how powerful or “Holy” is above the law. Whether your experience involved coercion, sexual abuse, and/or institutional cover-up – such accounts deserve to be heard. Not just in whispers, but upon rooftops, including formal means which enforce accountability.

We recognize how complex this can be. Reporting may stir trepidation – fear of retaliation, denial/disbelief by others resulting in loss of community and/or perceived credibility. When untangling years of shame, one can easily fall prey to manipulation. Gaslit into questioning whether circumstances even “Count.” Dear survivor… if something within still aches or you awaken in the dead of night replaying historical frames – you don’t need permission to name it as harm.

This page exists to encourage and connect with reporting options. Too many secular systems are not trauma-informed, less so in RTS/SRA – mirroring how places of worship arent always kosher. That written, there are organizations, advocates, and professionals whose experience has them aligned. Caring individuals who’ve been there, willing to take your hand and walk a mile… individuals who understand justice is not about prosecution alone, but reclaiming your voice.

While reporting is not a process required to heal, for many, its a sacred and necessary step. A legal declaration: What happened to me was wrong. I will no longer carry it in silence! You are not alone – and far from powerless!

The pain is real, and your courage even louder. If by choosing to come forward, your truth prevents another innocent from harm – your very thoughts are already part of a greater consciousness.

“Though the voice may tremble… wherever truth speaks…. false gods crumble.”
