JOIN ADVOCACY EFFORTS
Those Who’ve Been Silenced Longest
Are They Who Change Everything!
Survivors are often told to move on. Keep quiet. Forgive and forget for the sake of “Unity” perhaps “Health of the church” or because “God will deal with it.” Please. Enough of that.
What if survival isn’t the end of your story? What if your voice – the one they tried so hard to break – is exactly what the world needs to hear? What is you became the reason another innocent found courage to seek answers or prevent them from harming themselves?
Advocacy isn’t vengeance – it’s giving voice. Standing for those trapped as you once were – shamed by weaponization of scripture, abandoned by systems that claimed nurture. When joining advocacy efforts, you’re not just sharing, but helping other survivors rewrite the narrative. Declaring how trauma isn’t a weakness to be hidden, but injury demanding a witness, redress, and reform.
For the apprehensive, one doesn’t necessarily require a platform to engage. As for credentials? Who better to share your story than the author! Lived experience is key. All we really need is a spark of courage and shoulder to lean on – a few close friends in trying times, until we too become those rocks for others.
Whether contributing to awareness campaigns, drafting legislative reform, speaking at survivor-led events, organizing petitions, or simply helping another survivor feel seen/heard – your presence matters. Advocacy will always be necessary. Whether in privacy or shouted from the public square! Grassroots or global, every effort counts.
Where many choose to march, a growing number use ink. Some will organize legal battles, while others hold hands of those preparing to speak. Advocacy wears many faces – but always begins the same way – a decision to stop apologizing for surviving! Remember… they will never forgive you for harms they’ve caused. So don’t let any forget your name.
You need not have it all figured out, simply willing to take a stand and finally declare “Never again!”
We are far from powerless. We’re the witnesses they hoped would never find one another. Scar-bearing truth tellers fully aware what it felt like to be voiceless – vowing the next generation is never made to feel such pain.
